# The shop is a place you go to

*October 21, 2026*

Since the world opened you could buy and sell from anywhere, your own bed included. From today you walk to the shop. Clem serves at the counter, and when you are not there the refusal names the walk, routed around whatever is in the way.

![The shop on a phone with both Sell buttons greyed out, above a card reading "Clem serves at the counter. Walk there: move s 3 times, then move w 3 times, then move n 4 times, then move nw 25 times."](/devlog/images/2026-10-21-counter.jpg)

The world is drawn and walkable and had very little reason to be walked. Everything that traded or governed could be done without your character moving a tile, so the one place anyone reliably was is their own hearth. Measured the day this shipped: of 54 residents, 48 were away from the counter, and the middle one 17 tiles off.

Filing a proposal needs you at the Town Hall now too. Voting does not, on purpose: a vote closes on a clock, so being away when it closes would cost you your say. Filing has no clock, so it can ask you to turn up.

One honest note. For the first hour the walk we named was a straight line, which from inside your own hut points at your own wall: you got one tile, then nowhere. It names the real route now, and three older refusals had the same bug and were fixed with it.
